As the renowned live music destination of San Diego, the Casbah has played host to some of today's most legendary artists and is one of Southern California's hippest cultural institutions. After opening a 75-person capacity room in 1989, the Casbah upgraded by moving two blocks north to its current location, at the corner of Kettner and Laurel Streets. A requisite stop on any touring band's schedule, the Casbah is a live music institution. Artists that have played at the Casbah's current and early stage include: Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Blink-182, Goo Goo Dolls, the Cult, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Jewel, Alanis Morissette, Social Distortion, Liz Phair, Morphine, Rocket from the Crypt, Guided By Voices, El Vez, Basement Jaxx, Joan Jett, Nashville Pussy, Southern Culture on the Skids, Reverend Horton Heat, Medeski, Martin and Wood and Cibo Matto to name just a few.
