About Small Stone Records

Small Stone Records has had only one mission in it's dozen plus years existence; Simply put, to release only the best music. Founded in 1995 by Detroit area entrepreneur Scott Hamilton with only a $5000 loan and the dream of building a Sub Pop for the midwest Small Stone has quickly become one of the premiere Stoner Rock labels in the United States. Believing in quality over quantity, Hamilton spent the better part of the 90's building a reputation as a straight shooter with and excellent ear for music. With the signing of Five Horse Johnson in 1997 Small Stone dove headfirst into the then burgeoning Stoner Rock genre. Through word of mouth, a modest but impeccably chosen release schedule, and simple attrition Small Stone has established itself worldwide as the label of choice for bands with one unifying trait; the love of playing good old fashioned, down & dirty American Rock n' Roll. To date, Small Stone has amassed a considerable catalog around a stable of some of the most respected names in Stoner Rock including Los Natas, Sasquatch, Halfway To Gone, Puny Human, & Mos Generator as well as forays into experimental rock (Porn, Giant Brain), electronic (Morsel, Perplexa), and even alt-country (Whitey Morgan and the 78's).
